Before Listening: Using Audio Instructions
On test day, the IELTS Listening Test is presented on one digital audio track, which is initiated by a supervisor and plays continuously until it concludes, approximately 30 minutes later. This single audio track encompasses the 4 listening sections of the test, along with the instructions provided before, during, and after each listening section. These instructions are delivered by the same speaker throughout the test.
The sample script provided below demonstrates these instructions. Keep in mind that this script is provided for reference purposes, and you will not see it during the actual test. Instead, you will hear these instructions.

You’re going to listen to a number of different recordings. You’ll have to answer questions on what you hear. You will have time to read the instructions and questions, and to check your work. All the recordings will be played ONCE only. The test is in four sections. At the end of the test, you will be given 10 minutes to transfer your answers on to an answer sheet.
Section 1
You're going to listen to a telephone conversation about parking permits. First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5.

You’ll see that there is an example that has been done for you. The conversation relating to this example will be played first.

Red is the correct answer. Now let’s begin. You should answer the questions on the question sheet while you listen, because you will only hear the recording once. Now listen, and answer questions 1-5.
