Listening for the Main Idea

 In a talk or lecture, the main idea is the overall message conveyed by the speaker regarding the topic.

In a conversation, the main idea often aligns with the purpose of the conversation.

The following exercise will provide you with practice in answering questions about the main idea in a conversation. This exercise will be beneficial for completing Sections 1 and 3 of the IELTS Listening Test.
